Expect these in the next 3-4 weeks:

SSR13: NO - S/T 12"
Following a couple of demo tapes that didn't really do them any favours, London's NO did what most bands should do, namely go back to the practice space and work on writing better songs, not even really playing live in the meantime. After a while, everything finally clicked and they recorded this killer record. Eight tracks of ferocious, desperate hardcore punk played by misfits (some of whom also play in Satellites Of Love, Shitty Limits and Tremors) that sounds rooted in the sounds of early Mid-West American hardcore (comparisons to Die Kruezen, a more rabid White Cross and Mecht Mensch aren't completely invalid), but not stuck completely in the past. Recorded at Chuckalumba by the fellow who handled the early Electric Wizard lp's, this is going to be seen as an essential document of UK Hardcore in years to come.

Listen to 'Germ' here:

SSR14: VIOLENT FUTURE - S/T CS
Six track demo tape from this new Toronto hardcore band, who feature members of Urban Blight and Bad Choice. Mid-paced hardcore punk with killer riffs, pissed off vocals, and a solid Oi influence. What more do you need to know? This version is for the UK / Europe primarily, anywhere else, feel free to order direct from the band.

Listen to 'Violent Future' here:

No pre-orders or anything stupid for these, they'll be for sale once I physically have them here, assembled and ready to go. Expect that to happen early-mid March.

In other news, I've just set up a Bandcamp page for the label and in time will be adding all of the past releases for free streaming, you can find that right here: http://staticshockrecords.bandcamp.com/ . So far, Brain F≠, Deaf Mutations and Urban Blight is up there, so check those out if you haven't already. I'm not too sure how I feel about having stuff available to buy digitally, but maybe that'll be an option in the future.

SSR12 + SSR13

SSR12 has been pressed, but will not be released for a while.

SSR13 will be the debut 12" from NO. I feel like this band used to be a two-piece? Well they aren't anymore, and the sound is less claustrophobic and total - more digestable. I can't decide what I prefer... I sort of like the stripped down attack of the 7"s. They used to remind me of a less downer/more garage-ier GUN OUTFIT mixed with this old Olympia band PLASTIQUE (that Sarah Utter used to be in, see the song "The K.I.L.L." for further reference). A million squirrely riffs and hooks crammed into each song, a band that sounds consumed by what it does but also sorta indifferent... It's got a garage-y swagger but it's not really garage, like the TYRADES on ludes? Watching the TYRADES while you're on ludes then starting a band?! Bad reviewer alert! Someone kill me! It's got the relenentless attack of the early WIPERS 7"s ("No Solution" and "Does It Hurt"), but it's not really that either, more all over the place. In short, this is punk rock. It's good and imaginiative and off kilter and somehow sounds bored and aggro, with male/female vocals. I can imagine this appealing to fans of the VICIOUS, people looking for a modern day Dangerhouse Records, it's just so relentless. (LG)"
(Maximum Rocknroll)

"Art-clutter via hardcore punk served in ten frantically paced dishes. Male and female vocals are your handrails as distortion and feedback are whipped around, inches away from your face. The sheer noise that’s being created makes this band sound twice as big and 3,000 miles away from the source. I’m absolutely positive it dominates live. Pick it up and get weird, ‘cause these songs makes the average punk band sound like music that a yuppie would listen to in order to help them fall asleep."
(Razorcake)

If you run a zine or blog and would like to cover this (and future releases), just drop me a line and I'll hook you up!

SSR11: BRAIN F≠ - SLEEP ROUGH LP available now!

I'm thrilled to announce that the debut lp from Brain F≠ is now out and available to order! This is also the first lp that Static Shock has released and I'm really excited with how it's come out. For more info see below.

"The first two singles from North Carolina, USA's Brain F≠ left a lot of people scratching their heads: Is it garage? Is it hardcore? (It's definitely punk.) How did they write such catchy riffs? How do you pronounce "F≠?" Brain F≠'s debut long player, Sleep Rough, will force you to ponder those same questions and may breed even more (and we mean that in the best way possible). Everything has been amped up for this release... the hard stuff is harder, the catchy stuff is catchier (oh, is it catchy!), and the weird stuff is weirder. There's no need for band comparisons, but if you're into that sort of thing then imagine the SAINTS' minds in TEENGENERATE and the AVENGERS' bodies sent to a dystopian future. Really, though, this sounds like the year 2011; if you like huge guitars, endless vocal hooks, and a turbo-charged rhythm section (you do), then you need to hear this record." DEAF MUTATIONS is the brainchild of Dave Brown (also of Career Suicide) and they play violent, hardcore punk that wouldn't sound out of place on the Master Tape comp. The recordings on this 7" were originally released in late 2008 as a very limited cassette that didn't really make it out of Toronto. So needless to say, we're pretty thrilled to put this out and hopefully help this recording get the attention it deserves. At the request of the band, this is a one-time pressing of 500 copies.

Listen to 'Crash The Clubs' here: http://soundcloud.com/static-shock-records/deaf-mutations-crash-the-clubs

Here's what Terminal Boredom had to say of the original tape:

Furious and burning straight-Eighties styled US hardcore EP-style tape
which would make for a better hardcore 7" A-Side than a lot of this
other bullshit wasting oil these days. Half of Career Suicide ditching
the "nicer", more accessible punk-style leanings of that group for a
more violent approach, with the always busy Jonah Falco (also the
drummer of Fucked Up for those keeping tabs) doling out guitar blaze
that could remind you of just about any band on the Master Tape and
Davis switching from drums to wild vox spitting. I'm sure the bass
player and drummer are in some other bands too, but hey, I don't know
everything. Three songs, perfectly raw recording, no bullshit moves,
pedal-to-the-floor intensity throughout. "Mutation Shuffle" sounds just
plain hateful and I hope they're writing "My Feces Pt.2" as I write
this. Pretty short tape though, I would've liked a few more
tracks...(RK)"

In other news, I've picked up a big bunch of new records that are now in the distro, about 40 titles in all for this month, including among others, the new MAD MEN 7", both new DOUBLE NEGATIVE singles, the DOLLY MIXTURE singles lp, THE SCIENTISTS reissue 7", SOCIAL CIRCKLE's tour ep, all recent Sorry State records releases and a bunch more. Also coming in the next few days is the CRAZY SPIRIT demo lp, the latest issue of Artcore zine, a Grave Mistake package, and a big load of records that will be saved for the July update, a lot of which won't be available many (if any) other places in the UK/Europe.

Upcoming releases in the works:
BRAIN F# - Sleep Rough LP
VIOLENT REACTION - 7" flexi

AWAY

I am away from now until June 21st, so no orders will go out until then I'm afraid. One is the second in our occasional cassette releases and the second is a repress of Urban Blight’s last ep, which has been sold out for a couple of months, and I’m happy that it’s still out there and people still want it.

THE SAUCE – LIVES! TAPE
The Sauce are a new band featuring members of Fucked Up, Hygiene, The Shitty Limits and Trash Talk who play harrington punk influenced by the likes of Victimize and Disorder (Sunderland). Songs about Reading and recorded in Reading. This two track tape is probably the best thing you’ll ever hear. Pro duplicated tapes housed in badly photocopied sleeves, limited to 100 copies.

URBAN BLIGHT – TOTAL WAR 7″
Repress of 235 copies on white vinyl. Following on from last years ‘More Reality’ 12″ ep on Slasher Records, Toronto’s Urban Blight are back with five new tracks of blown out hardcore punk. These new tracks, while still mining the Abused / SSD sound, also bring forth the Discharge and The Insane influence even more. This is hardcore as it’s meant to be. The 7″ comes housed in a 6 panel poster sleeve, to go up next to all of the Crass and UK82 ones on your wall.

The Brain F# 7″ is still available, although supplies are getting low and I don’t have plans to repress it for the time being.
